Trash Removal

Trash is collected twice a week by a private trash hauling company.
For some reason, the Town of Greenwich does not collect trash. Any resident can take their own trash to the dump for free, but if you want it taken to the dump for you, you have to pay a private service.
Depending on which property you live in, this service might be paid for by you or by the landlord.  This is specified in your lease.
If you are paying for the service, you may want to split the cost with your neighbor.
Trash should be in bags in your garbage cans.  Leave the cans where they are and the collector will empty them.
Recyclables (newspaper, white paper, magazines, cans, bottles, or plastic marked "1" or "2") should never be put in the trash. This is a town law.
Recycling is collected once a week.  This service is provided by the Town of Greenwich.
We have provided a small blue recycling bin (shaped like a trash can) in the apartment, and also a dark blue tub by the trash cans. These bins are part of the apartment and a charge will be made if they are not left there at the end of your lease.
The town provides "curbside" collection.  This means that you must take the bin out to the curb the night before the recycling collection.
Only the following materials should be in the bin:
glass bottles (all colors and types)
metal cans (soda cans, beer cans, and the cans that canned food comes in)
Any plastic with a "1" or "2" on the bottom (milk bottles, soda bottles, juice bottles, laundry detergent bottles, bleach bottles, motor oil bottles, and some plastic cups and containers)
newspapers. Note: newspapers may not be placed loose in the bin - they must be placed in paper bags or tied together with twine.
Mixed-Paper recycling is collected once a month.  This service is provided by the trash hauler who normally collects your trash.
The mixed paper should be placed in the blue bin (with a hinged lid) that we have provided for this purpose. The bin is kept in the basement. Paper may also be placed in any other container, such as the blue newspaper bin, or a cardboard box - but should be labeled "MIXED PAPER." It may not be placed in plastic bags. Be sure that it will not blow away during the night.
The bin or other container should be placed at the normal garbage location, next to your trash cans.
The mixed-paper collection day takes the place of a normal trash collection day once a month. The schedule of which day is provided by your trash hauler.
